Date: April 27, 2011
Time Spent: 1 hour 30 minutes
Total Time: 15 hours 30 minutes
How am I Doing: I met with Pauline for the last time. We talked about the overall project and I asked her for suggestions that I can include in my presentation. I showed her my finalized essay and she read it over. I also presented one more time in front of her, but I didn't have my visial aid with me. She helped me with my speech and gave me tips about posture, speaking and habits while presenting. She wished me luck and we said our goodbyes.
Meeting with Pauline gave me a better understanding of life working with cancer patients. She gave me alot of information, and insight, and I plan to incorporate it into my speech. She has helped me a great deal and has also led me to realize the emotional struggles cancer. When she walked me through her department in the hospital, seeing the chairs and needles lined up in rows scared me. It made me realize that cancer patients have it hard and that they feel scared and initmidated all the time because that's how i felt walking through her ward.

Eighth Meeting with Mentor
Date: April 25, 2011
Time Spent: 1 hour 30 minutes
Total Time: 14 hours 30 minutes
How am I Doing: Today I presented my senior projected to Pauline. I brought a power point I put together and included some statistics, facts and pictures on it. I tried not to rely on the visual aid part too much, because the majority of the presentation is supposed to be my speech. I prepared notecards and used them as reference, I didn't want to read it because I won't be able to have notecards during my presentation for the panelists. She thinks I am doing well, but she advised me not to use a powerpoint and encouraged my to construct a posterboard. She also thinks I need to better organize my information so I am not stumbling on too many ideas at once or jumping from topic to topic.
Next action: Final meeting with my mentor to finalize my senior project
Time Spent: 1 hour 30 minutes
Total Time: 14 hours 30 minutes

Seventh Meeting with Mentor
Date: April 15, 2011
Time Spent: 1 hour
Total Time: 13 hours
How am I Doing: Today we talked about my involvement in Relay for Life. I told her what I was doing, and how me and my mom both signed up for the event in May. I explained what it was, and how the organization raises money for cancer patients and survivors, and also to raise money for research towards a cure. I also talked about my involvement in illuminaria, and what it was. She seemed really interested about the event and I invited her to come by for the event. The more I tell people about Relay for Life, the more i feel i am doing my part. I was surprised to find how many people didn't know what the event was or they had never heard of it. Thisonly makes me realize that things like this should be promoted and I need to do my part and spread the word.
Next Action: I am going to present my senior project to her and ask for some constructive criticism. I will use it as a practice performance.
Time Spent: 1 hour

Fifth Meeting with Mentor
Date: April 4, 2011
Time Spent: 1 hour 30 minutes
Total Time: 8 hours 30 minutes
Actions: Myth versus Fact: Question about hair loss
How am I Doing: A big misconception when people think of cancer is hair falling out. Alot people think that your hair falls out because of the cancer. They believe that if your hair starts to fall out, then it means you have cancer. I thought this to be true as well, but I learned people losing their hair is an effect of the treatment, the chemo. According to Pauline, most of the cancer patients lose their hair during the course of their treatment. Some of them cut their hair very short and some of them wear hats. One of her patients lost all of the hair she had including eyebrows and eyelashes.
Next Action: I will ask her about the age range she encounters everyday and the most common kind of cancer that she encountered at her work.
